Wakes and funeral receptions
A private room in the centre of Amesbury where family and friends can gather after the service.
If you are reading this, you probably have a great deal to organise and very little time. We will keep this part simple.
Call us on 01980 623163. Tell us the day, roughly how many people you expect and what you would like to offer them. We will take care of the room, the refreshments and the staff.
You do not need exact numbers when you first ring. Most families do not know how many will come, and we are used to planning around that.
Where we are
The hotel is at 15 Church Street in the centre of Amesbury, directly opposite Amesbury Abbey church and a short drive from Salisbury Crematorium. There is a pay and display car park across the road, which makes it easy for older relatives and people arriving from a crematorium or a service elsewhere.
The room
You will have a private room to yourselves, sized to the number of people you expect, from a handful of close family to a large gathering. In fine weather the walled garden is there for anyone who needs some air.
Food and drink
You can keep it to tea and coffee served as people arrive, add a selection of cakes or a finger buffet, or sit everyone down to a meal. The bar can be open for those who would like a drink. If there was a dish or a drink the person loved, tell us and we will try to include it.
One of our function managers looks after every wake from the first phone call to the end of the afternoon, so you always deal with the same person.
Things people ask us
How much notice do you need?
As much as you can give, but we understand that is often only a few days. Ring us and we will tell you straight away whether we have a room free.
What does it cost?
It depends on the number of people and what you would like to serve, from tea and coffee on arrival to a finger buffet or a sit-down meal. Call 01980 623163 with rough numbers and we will give you a price there and then.
Can we display photographs or play music?
Yes. Bring photographs, an order of service or a playlist and we will help you set them out. The hotel has projectors, screens and sound systems you can use.
Can relatives travelling a long way stay overnight?
Yes. The hotel has en-suite bedrooms upstairs. Mention it when you call and we will check what is free on the night.
Send us the details
If you would rather not phone, fill in what you can and leave the rest blank. We will ring or email you back, whichever you prefer.
